The MAWIMBI Program is dedicated to catalyzing the expansion and influence of Tanga's entrepreneurship ecosystem through strategic support for local organizations. With the support of the Botnar Foundation, INCO is actively addressing the challenge of creating opportunities for the youth in Tanga. The program is committed to fortifying the local entrepreneurial landscape by accentuating Tanga's considerable potential and actively enhancing its appeal to external stakeholders. Through targeted initiatives, MAWIMBI aims to foster a thriving environment that empowers local businesses and positions Tanga as a compelling hub for entrepreneurship.
Context
INCO's extensive experience in designing and implementing successful incubation programs has sparked meaningful conversations with the Botnar Foundation about charting the next evolutionary steps for Tanga.
Tanga boasts a diverse economic landscape, encompassing technology startups, agriculture, fishing, and tourism, all pivotal to the region's growth. This diversity positions Tanga as a fertile ground for innovation and investment. Nevertheless, the region grapples with challenges such as high poverty rates, limited access to education and healthcare, and restricted job opportunities—especially impacting women and youth. Addressing these underlying impediments is pivotal for unlocking Tanga's economic development.
The Mawimbi program is a proactive response, concentrating on collaborative efforts within the local ecosystem. By fostering cooperation and innovation among various stakeholders, including public entities, private enterprises, civil society organizations, and more, the program seeks to generate fresh economic opportunities specifically for the youth in Tanga.
INCO's approach is to kickstart this process by leveraging existing foundations. The goal is to establish a comprehensive value chain of entrepreneurship support.
Mawimbi objective
Mawimbi is an 18-month project, designed as a global initiative targeting various aspects of Tanga's entrepreneurial ecosystem, where different programs coexist, complementing each other for a significant impact on the entire value chain.
